Regatta recognised with the Large Business of the Year Award at regional awards

Job Gym employer Regatta won Large Business of the Year Award for its commitment to developing workforce skills at the second annual Skills for Business Awards on 1st July 2015.

The Skills for Business Awards, delivered by Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Manchester Learning Provider Network (GMLPN) and Greater Manchester Apprenticeship Hub and in association with Pearson, is an annual event celebrating the outstanding contribution that skills and learning make to businesses across Greater Manchester.

Now in its second year, the awards took place on Wednesday 1 July 2015 at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club and an audience of over 500 people attended.

Announcing Regatta’s win, the judges commented: ‘Regatta have good links to business objectives and good metrics for measuring the learning impact. Through training, better productivity and accuracy has been achieved, having a positive impact on customer satisfaction and costs associated with returns.’

In particular, the judges recognised that "the business was very multicultural and employ people who don’t have English as a first language, and provide them with English and Maths courses in order to help them progress in the workplace."

Caron Wright, Group Learning and Development Manager at Regatta, said: "When we found out we were nominated for the award we were all so excited. We are a family business which started from basically nothing and we have put a lot of work into our apprenticeships, so to have won is especially thrilling. Winning an award like this says a lot about the company and our investment both financially and with the time we have committed to providing these opportunities. We wanted to provide opportunities for career development, so apprentices know that there is a career for them here at Regatta."

"We’ve not done it alone though, Mantra have been absolutely fantastic and we’ve been so impressed with their support that we’ve recommended them to Aldi. Winning the award gives us credentials for our future work with apprentices as it is proof of our commitment to training and the hard work of our staff who are all extremely dedicated. I’m so enthusiastic about it; it’s been a lot of hard work every day and from everybody.”
